Our Foundations Program represents the very core of our commitment to making our students better artists. We teach classical techniques because they have been historically proven to be the best and fastest way for students to improve in their abilities. The program is taught in three levels, can be completed as quickly as three sessions, or for as long as it takes a given individual. There is no set time limit on each level.
Foundations is a required class at Teaching Studios. It sets the stage for understanding what we teach in our Still Life, Landscape, Portrait and Figure Classes. The fundamental concepts of converting what an artist sees in three dimensions into two dimensions, onto canvas or paper, and then creating believable, volumetric form are the main focus of this important first step. Plaster Casts are the primary object of study in this class. The subsequent Foundations classes, 2 and 3, are strongly suggested for any artist looking for serious improvement to their work. They can be taken in any order.
Foundations helps provide a deeper understanding of the genres of Still Life, Master Copy, Portraiture and Figure. The same principles that are taught in Foundations are applied in any new, more artistically demanding context. Blocking-in, value study, color theory, and more advanced painting techniques are adhered to for each step of each genre covered in any class on our schedule.
Any student wishing to master the craft of realistic drawing and painting would be well served by studying with us in our Foundations program. We hope you will join us. No one is too young, too old, too experienced out too much of a novice to benefit from this program. Please call or email us with any questions.
