The Figure: Drawing and Painting with structure and anatomy

Instructor

This class is designed to help artists learn the basics of how to draw the figure using short and long poses. Supplemental material by some of the greatest figurative artists and illustrators will be discussed and assigned for homework.

We begin by learning to convert the great masses of the body into specific shapes, using both linear contour and structural building blocks. Different types of classical proportions will be discussed, as well as anatomical structure. One of the main goals of this course is to teach the artist to see the body as having architectural structure, and understanding how to translate that concept into 2 dimensional form. It's not as hard as it sounds, and the results come rather quickly.

Short poses till 8:00pm, then one long lose till 9:30pm. The long pose will stay the same for 12 weeks.
