Figure Drawing and Painting Lessons
Day : Wednesday
Time : 11 am - 2pm
Instructor : Rob Zeller
Spring Session 2: May 22 - July 1
A class designed for artists of all levels of experience
This class is available by itself, or as part of the all day Figure/Portrait Atelier. For the Atelier option, click here.
If you have wanted to learn more about the figure, but find it overwhelming in its complexity, this is the class for you. Our figure drawing and painting lessons emphasize form, structure and anatomy.
Each class will begin with an anatomy lesson and then a mix of short poses. This will be followed by one long pose, in the second half off class each week, that will last the duration of the semester. So students will always get a mix of short and long poses.
The textbook for this class will be The Figurative Artist’s Handbook by the instructor, Rob Zeller, put out by The Monicelli Press. All of the concepts taught in this class are also in the book, and Zeller teaches a concepts from it weekly. The book can be purchased from Amazon by clicking here.
5 essential concepts will be taught:
1. Gesture and rhythm of the pose
2. Basic proportions and geometry of the figure
3. Blocking-in using anatomy and a specific understanding of light and shadow
4. Modeling form
5. Finishing and refining touches
Artist will draw, then paint monochromatically, then paint in full color.
