Foundations and Portrait Drawing and Painting- Long Pose
Day : Wednesday
Time : 2:30-5:30
Instructor : Robert Zeller
Class Starts : Feb 21
Foundations and Portrait Painting- Long Pose offers two tracks of study, simultaneously:
•Foundations are the bedrock of what we do at Teaching Studios. In this class, Foundations students study a course that develops foundational drawing skills, using Barque drawing plates, plaster casts, and still life objects, as well as copying Old Master drawings and paintings, to gain an understanding of the basics of drawing and painting itself.
Portrait Students will learn how to draw and paint a portrait from the live model in the academic tradition. The basic planes of the head will be studied and memorized first. Then students will work on a portrait, moving through 3 steps.
1. Block-in the portrait in pencil, then transfer the drawing to a canvas.
2. Execute a small value/color study
3. Proceed to make a finished painting from the live model using the color study and drawing as guides.
An emphasis will be on capturing the biggest planes of the head first, then setting up a heirarchy of value and color, and finally nuanced form and details. Students may simply draw if they wish.
