A 2 DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP
WITH A MODERN MASTER

Dynamic Figure Drawing begins with great movement and rhythmic design.

In Dynamic Rhythm and Movement in Figure Drawing and Composition, contemporary master Adam Miller will help you learn to make figure drawings and compositions that are full of rhythm and life.
In order to give the figure a higher degree of believability, students should begin with considering major masses, anatomical surface form, and rhythm. By slight changes in emphasis in movements of muscles masses in the body- a complete movement of the entire figure from head to toe. As in the work of Michelangelo, Bernini, Giambologna and Peter Paul Rubens.
Often, when students begin to draw the figure from an academic perspective, they use the block-in method. This approach to the figure is rooted in abstraction, from a purely shape oriented perspective. The net result is that most academic figure drawings lack movement. Some think that this is because they’re too polished, too perfect. Rather, the lack of movement is due the fact that they contain too many decisions based on inaccurate observation.
This workshop will focus on the introduction of rhythm and movement to add “life” in your figure drawing and in compositions. Join us for a 10-hour intensive with one of the best figurative artists working today.

We will start the day with quick sketches of short drawings focusing on rhythm, gesture and construction, working our way up to a longer drawing. Students will also observe live demonstration from the instructor, as well as receive direct feedback and critique from the instructor at multiple points during the creation of their own drawing. The skills developed in this workshop will enable students to make their own drawings from life or photographic reference containing rhythm and vitality.
