Join us for Landscape Painting in Oils, a workshop over two consecutive Sundays, March 14 & 21, with Kenneth Salaz. This workshop will focus on deepening your fundamental skills as an artist and painter and is based off the contents of his book Landscapes in Oils, which will be used as a reference. Salaz will begin the workshop with a demonstration of a studio landscape painting and participants will then proceed to paint the same image under Salaz’ guidance. As the afternoon progresses, he will provide individual critiques helping students achieve an in-depth understanding of drawing, value, color, light quality and paint application. Ken Salaz graduated from Cooper Union. Salaz spent several years traveling the world, through Asia, Central and South America, and Europe painting landscapes and making copies of Masterworks at numerous Museums. He continued his education with Leonid Gervitz of the Repin Academy and Nelson Shanks. He trained three years at The Water Street Studio of Jacob Collins and spent two summers with him at the Hudson River Fellowship in the Catskill Mountains. He is currently a Senior Fellow and instructor at the Fellowship. His work is held in numerous prominent collections across the United States. Salaz has been featured in numerous publications, including Fine Art Connoisseur, International Artists, American Art Collector and Plein Air. M. In 2019, he released a book of techniques, Landscapes in Oil with the Monacelli Press and an instructional video entitled Majestic Landscapes with Streamline Video. He currently lives with his wife and sons in the beautiful Hudson River Valley.

Fan Brush
Panels - Very Important!! - You must paint on linen, or gesso panel.
Secondly - It would be smart to tone your panels with a light wash of Burnt Umber or Burnt Umber mixed with Burnt Sienna. Not too dark, just enough to take the white off.
Sizes: Buy 9 x 12 and 11 x 14. it would be good to have some small panels 6 x 8 to do color studies btw!
