For children, ages 6-11
In Lessons in Art For Children, kids will learn the basics of how line, shape, and color work. By making their own color wheel with watercolors, they will learn about color mixing and the relationships between colors. The lessons are cumulative, in that students will apply what they learned the previous week to the current lesson.

We will look at works of artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Vermeer, Matisse, Gwen John, and others. Students will use these paintings as inspiration to create their own while learning about color theory, light, value, and form in age-appropriate lessons.

Topics will include:

Hue, Value (lights and darks), and Saturation (colorful vs gray)

Primary triads and Secondary colors

Complementary colors

Mixing Neutrals

Line and pencil sketching

Simplifying shapes before adding details

Layering watercolor washes
