2 Levels: Participant or Observer
In the Figure Drawing on Toned Paper Workshop, students will explore the luminous depiction of flesh on toned paper with Daniel Maidman. Working from a live model will be posing over Zoom, and Maidman’s standard drawing toolkit of white and graphite pencils and tan printmaking paper, students will practice techniques and receive personalized critiques as well as discussion, demonstration about the fundamentals of life drawing.
The workshop is available in two formats: Participant ($150) and Observer ($50).

Recommended materials (feel free, however, to use the materials you are most interested in. These materials are the ones the instructor will be using):
2 sheets of Rives BFK Tan Heavyweight printmaking paper; each 22”x30” sheet should be torn or cut into 11”x15” quarters, yielding a total of 8 quarter-sheets
A drawing board and clips to hold the paper, if needed
3 3B pencils (Staedtler is great)
3 white Prismacolor pencils
1 sharpener (pre-test to make sure it works with Prismacolor pencils, which are more delicate than ordinary pencils - sharpeners with reservoirs are recommended, as white pencils need constant sharpening)
1 pentel clic eraser or other rubber eraser (not gum eraser)
Daniel Maidman is an experienced life-drawing instructor. He has taught individually and to groups, in person and online. His teaching style combines general principles and highly personalized critique. While he is open with demonstrating and explaining his techniques, his goal is to help students express their own vision of the figure.
Maidman’s drawings and paintings are included in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Long Beach Museum of Art. His art and writing on art have been featured in The Huffington Post, ARTnews, Forbes, W, Juxtapoz, and many others. He has been shown in solo shows in New York City and in group shows across New York, the United States, and Europe. His books, Daniel Maidman: Nudes and Theseus: Vincent Desiderio on Art, are available from Griffith Moon Publishing. He paints in Brooklyn, New York.
Participants- students will receive direct instruction and live critiques on their drawings from Maidman throughout the workshop. There are 10 participant spots available.
Observer-level students will be able to watch and listen the workshop, and even draw along. But Observers will not participate in the discussion, or receive any individual critiques. These will be view-only..
There will be no recordings made available of this workshop for later viewing. It is a one-time event, just as if you visited our studio and took the workshop in person.
