Foundations of Academic Drawing and Painting offers a step-by-step approach to the fundamentals of drawing and painting in the classical tradition. A very informative and comprehensive class, students will learn a working method that will span the genres of Still Life, Landscape,as well as copying Old Master drawings and paintings, to gain an understanding of the basics of drawing and painting itself.

Similar to Foundations of Classical Drawing and Painting, students will work on individual projects initially. First, they will block-in a Still Life in pencil, then transfer the drawing to a canvas. They will execute both a value and color study, then proceed to make a finished painting. Students will then repeat this process for a copy of an Old Master Landscape, Figure or Portrait, following the exact same steps. Finally, students will have the option to work from the live model for a portrait and/or figure for 5 weeks.
